Cold “Snap-fus” (Thoughts on an Unusually Cold Winter Day in South Central Texas)

“Man that was cold.”
“Wow! That IS cold!”
Says my Historically-Black St. Philip’s College colleague
Al Williams
From Clean Seguin, Texas
When he painfully reflects on
Past treatment of fellow African-Americans
Or recoils to events current.
…………..
Cold!  …   So cold!
Small mistakes with cold ambients
Can result in a wondrous fluid situation
Turning to ice;
Insufficient available polarity–
Or open-mindedness
Toward connectiveness/solidarity–
In order to cleanse the corpus,
To clear the mens.*
Small mistakes
In getting through:
To cold unempathetic beings, To un-gnostic humans …
Who will not dare to listen:
To the cold hard (hot) data,
To well-researched mathematical algorithmic models
Of deeply caring prudent scientists …
Can result in “permanent” walls and barriers
To communication and an understanding
Toward functionally meeting
Existential threats,
Major ecological challenges …
Which must be steadfastly addressed
Immediately …
(Global climate change,
Non-solidarity,
“Black Lives/Lives of the Poor Not Really Mattering” …
Being cardinal.)
……………….
 Asserts Al,
“Man that’s really cold!”
*****************
(*Of course,
Too much heat …
May result in “excessively hot,
Hostile polarization?”)

Another little poem of today was from reactions to this cold by a dear friend, Gloria Sasser, and my wife, Betsy:
Reaction to This Crazy Cold Weather and Snow-Covered Seguin, Texas
“It is beeeauuutiful!!!
But I don’t like it!”
“Me neither!!”

  1. Such a good piece. It warms my heart and brain, Paul. By the way, warmer here in northern Vermont than there in Seguin this morning. Sorry I had no internet service yesterday to hear you read this poem from which I learn so much.
