I think a lot about innocent children. My poem this week herein paulpeaceparables.com for Seguin’s Creekside Poets focused to a large extent on sweet kids.
As I watch and listen to a segment of Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War on PBS and think about Hiroshima, the anniversary of which was earlier this month on August 6th–I reflect on how these events helped to strip away quickly my own childhood innocence. I know yours was also stripped away similarly and that it will continue to be stripped away soon for those beautiful kids of ours currently entering kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, and early college classes this fall.
Of course, the process of losing innocence is a process of learning. … Ecology is the study of it ALL … and learning ecological values is learning why we must take care of it ALL for as long as possible.
The one big wish I have is that all of my extended family of Martins, and our friends, work diligently at learning about ecological principles, processes, realizing ecological values, and teaching and preaching them and politicking for them even though these processes will strip away the childish innocence which I truly cherish and love. I do wish we could all remain innocents. Nevertheless, we have a responsibility to learn and to help others to learn.
Love,
